Arthur Louis Anderson, 79, of Minot, and former owner and operator of Anderson’s D & S Bootery, died on Monday, January 7, 2008, in a Minot hospital. Art Anderson

Art was born on April 9, 1928, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, to Arthur and Anna (Walter) Anderson.  He was raised there and in Belle Fourche, SD; Bismarck, ND; and Laramie, WY.  He graduated from Laramie High School in 1945.  Art began his college studies at the University of Wyoming, where he had been recruited to play on the UW basketball team.  He completed his undergraduate degree in English Education at Minot State Teacher's college.  Art received graduate school training at Temple University in Philadelphia prior to earning his Master’s Degree in Speech and Audiology from the University of Wyoming.  Art served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954 in Austria.

Art married Elizabeth Marlys Braaten on June 17, 1950, in Bismarck.  They made their home in Bismarck, where Art taught English at Bismarck High School.  In 1956, they moved to Minot as Art joined his father in the operation of Anderson’s D & S Bootery.  Art retired from the family shoe business in 1990. Marlys died on December 19, 1991.  Art married Martha “Marty” Luxem on January 2, 1993.  They continued to make their home in Minot, but spent their summer months at Lake Sakakawea enjoying the cabin, yard, and lake community. They put many pleasurable miles on their golf cart at the Hazen golf course (a momentous event being Art's hole-in-one).

Art was a charter member of St. John The Apostle Catholic Church – Minot, where he ushered for over twenty-five years. He served on the local Draft Board, on the Board of Directors of the North Central Mental Health Association, and was the chairman of a U.S. Grand Jury. Art was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, and Eagles Aerie; he was also an officer and member of the Minot Country Club.

Art enjoyed golfing, reading, playing cards, solving the world’s problems over a cup of coffee, and spending time with family and friends.  He also enjoyed time spent on “projects” at his lake cabin.

Those who shared in his life are his wife of fifteen years: Martha “Marty” Anderson; children: Art “Guy” (Lana) Anderson, Bryan Anderson, and Nan (Tom) Lundeen all of Minot, and Julianne (Bruce) Moen of Beatty, NV; stepchildren: Linda (Keith) Dickinson, Russ (Nancy) Parizek, and Randy (Shirley) Parizek all of Minot; Barb (Marvin) Masset and Beverly (Larry) Sailer both of Bismarck, and Sheila Schoenwald of Maricopa, AZ; grandchildren:  Tara (Matt) Sundahl, Nathan (Jeni) Anderson, Matthew (Krista) Lundeen, Michael and Molly Lundeen, Elizabeth, Erik and Kevin Moen; great-grandchildren:  Brekkyn and Audrey Sundahl, Kaydra, Cole and Claire Anderson and Emma Lundeen; numerous stepgrandchildren and step great-grandchildren; sister: Margarete Anne (Bill) Holcombe of Tucson, AZ; three nieces, one nephew, and several cousins.
