Carl Olson, 72, Velva, formerly of Norwich, died Thursday, August 07,
2008, in a Minot hospital. Carl was born on February 20, 1936, in Granville, N.D., to Edwin and Elizabeth (Hurley) Olson. He was reared on the family farm in Egg Creek Township of McHenry County, near Granville, and graduated from Granville High School in 1954. After graduating from high school, he served in the Army for three years. Carl was united in marriage to Melba Brandt on May 28, 1961, in Upham. They made their home in Velva, where they raised their four children. Carl was employed by Krebsbach’s Inc. in Velva as a bookkeeper for many years and most recently was employed by Magic City Implement. He also assisted Larry Lee with harvest in the fall. Carl was an active member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, where he served as the church treasurer for many years. He was also a former member of the Velva Park Board, serving as the secretary-treasurer for 15 years. He was a member of the Velva American Legion Post, and a former Jaycee and Boy Scouts of America committee member. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play MSU and Velva football, attending his grandchildren’s extracurricular events, hunting, farming, walking, working in the yard, bicycling, and playing with his grandchildren. Carl’s loving family includes his wife of 47 years: Melba; children: Melonie (Dean) Weidler, Velva, Troy (Lauri) Olson, Cooperstown, Allison (Paul) Germolus, Bismarck, and Darin (Kimberly) Olson, Estherville, Iowa; grandchildren: Lindsay, Brendan, Jordan, Hannah, Taylor, Jaci, Noah, Benjamin, Isaiah, Elizabeth, Jacob, Emilee, and Erika; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Erling, and sisters: Juanita Hanson and Margaret Miller.
