Darlene GuldemannDarlene Kjellberg Guldemann, 70, Minot and formerly of the Berthold area, died Thursday, February 1, 2007 in a Minot Hospital from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. 

Darlene was born December 3, 1936 on the family farm near Berthold, the daughter of Joel and Anna (Asmundson) Kjellberg. Darlene was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church in Tagus, ND.  She was raised on the family farm near Berthold and attended grade school at Tagus and graduated from Berthold High School.  She attended Minot Business College and had received singing awards while in high school.

For over thirty years, Darlene bred, trained, and raced Thoroughbred horses in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Illinois. She managed her own horse farm with up to 50 horses including a stallion.  In 1975, her family horse farm received the Minnesota Thoroughbred Breeder's Award for raising successful race horses.  She was once married to Michael Guldemann of Minot. 

Darlene's main interest in life was thoroughbred horses and she devoted her efforts in that direction throughout her life.  Darlene also had a strong faith in God and enjoyed visiting with family. She suffered with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and rheumatoid arthritis for several years. 

Her loving family includes: Son: Marty (Brenda) Heller, Beulah, ND and their children: Shawn, Ashley & Nicole; Daughter: Melissa Guldemann and her husband: Pat Chiariello, Glencoe, MN and their daughter: Mariah; Mother: Anna Kjellberg,  Berthold; Brother: Norris (Margie) Kjellberg,  Berthold. 

Darlene was preceded in death by her father, Joel.

Funeral service: Monday, February 5, 2007 at 1:00pm in Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold;
Interment:
St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Tagus;
Visitation:
Sunday from noon-5:00pm in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot and one hour prior the service in the church.
