Edward was born on September 13, 1911 in Kief, North Dakota, to Mack and Eva (Sitch) Kankovsky. He was raised in the Kief area and graduated from Kief High School. Edward married Ella Dassenko on July 2, 1938 in Kief. They made their home on a farm in the Kief area for thirty-seven years and he did carpentry work for Farmers Union Lumber Company of Butte. They moved to Drake in 1975 where Ed continued doing carpentry and was employed at Alme Implement for many years. They moved to Minot in 1999 and resided at Dakota Terrace Apartments until 2004 when they moved to Somerset Court. Edward was a member of Community Baptist Church - Anamoose and attended Immanuel Baptist Church - Minot. He was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed woodworking. He took great pride in his family, especially his grandchildren as well as his wife’s baking, varaniki and bagels. Edward’s loving family includes his wife of 69 years: Ella; daughter: Jeanette (Gerald) Donelenko of rural Balfour; two grandchildren: Scott (Sharon) Donelenko of Gainesville, FL and Tania (Ronald) Novak of rural Minot; six great grandchildren: Taylor, Jayd and Layne Novak; Macey, Mallory and Ava Jo Donelenko as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Helen Plesuk, Ethel Zakopyko and Violet Shattun and brother: Elvin Kanko.
