Eleanor Farstad was born February 19, 1915 in Battleview, ND to Henry and Adina (Blomquist) Farstad. She was raised in Battleview and graduated from high school in Powers Lake in 1933. She earned her teaching certificate in 1935 from Minot State Teacher’s College and a Standard Diploma in 1939. She taught elementary school in Grandview, Battleview and Lignite districts from 1935 to 1941. Eleanor was united in marriage to Gilbert Hanson October 25, 1941 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Battleview. They made their home in Dayton, Ohio from 1941-1945, but returned to North Dakota in 1946 residing in Powers Lake and Battleview until 1958 when they moved to Minot. Until his death on August 20, 1990, Eleanor and Gib celebrated more than 40 years of marriage, not only raising their boys, but sharing in everything, including an active partnership in both Gib’s Construction and building their own homes. Eleanor was also active in the Minot community working as a sales associate at Payless Shoes and a volunteer at Trinity Medical Center. Eleanor was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church, participating in numerous activities, teaching Sunday school and serving as superintendent for a number of years. She enjoyed afternoon scrabble games, board games, and coffee with friends. Eleanor’s life was dedicated to family and her many friends. She will always be missed, especially at holidays for her love, care and hospitality. Surviving family includes: Sons: Mick (Sharon) Hanson, Missoula, MT and their children, Mindy (Porter) Hammitt, Bart (Wendy) Hanson, and Clay Hanson; Lowell Hanson, Devils Lake, ND and his children, Julie (Scott) Ladner and Luke Hanson; Duane (Darlene) Hanson, East Grand Forks, MN and their children, Justin (Lindsey) Hanson, Lindsey (Timothy) Carlson; and Keith (Sheila) Hanson and their children, Levi, Shea, and Jordan Hanson; Great-Grandchildren: Ally and Mandy Ladner and Elijah Hammitt; Brother: Harold (Inga) Farstad, Minot, ND; and many extended family Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gilbert, and brother: Oliver Farstad.
