Etheline Hogan Stevenson, 82,  great granddaughter of Custer scouts Goes Ahead and Pretty Shield, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 in a Minot Hospital following a brave battle with cancer.

Deaxkaashbia (Eagle Woman)  was born August 2, 1926 to George and MaryAnn (Reid) Hogan. She was a member of theEtheline Stevenson Big Lodge Clan and a child of the Greasy Mouth. She was named by her great-grandmother Pretty Shield, Medicine Woman of the Crows. As a young woman she worked at the Yellowtail Dam.  
   Etheline was united in marriage to Wilbur Stevenson Oct. 4, 1948 in Sidney, Mont..   They made their home in New Sanish, before moving to New Town in 1951.  She was employed by Northrop Grumman and retired after 20 years in New Town.   She also worked as a    dental assistant for a local dentist and at the New Town Nursing home.  Her love for children lead her to work as a cook for a TAT daycare in New Town until she retired at the age of 79.  Wilbur died August 5, 1988.  She continued to make her home in New Town.

   Etheline was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, New Town, the American Legion Auxiliary Post #300 of New Town, and the Mountrail County Selective Service Board for several years.  She enjoyed beading Crow style belts, Quilting, doing embroidery work and cooking, especially breads and pies for her children and grandchildren. Etheline Stevenson

   Her loving family includes: Children: Beverly (Darryl) Hall,     Parshall, ND, Irene Stevenson, New Town, Terrance (Marti) Stevenson, Sr, Bismarck, ND, Deborah (Alan) Lee, New Town, Evelyn (Gaylon) Klimpel, Minot, Willette (Gerald) Bachmeier,  Morris, MN and Aaron Stevenson, NewTown, ND; 36 Grandchildren, 28 Great-Grandchildren; 4 Step-Great-Grandchildren; Sisters, Emma Yellow Mule, Wyola, MT and Evelyn Bear Ground, Garryowen, MT; Brother, Lloyd (Ardith) Hogan,  Benteen, MT; Sister-in-law:  Bertha Hogan, Hardin, MT and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.


   Etheline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Wilbur Stevenson, Jr, daughter, Constance Hogan-Stewart, grandsons, George Stewart and Safford Hall, great-grandson, Jalen Lee, sister, Marie Hogan, brothers, George Hogan III and Frank Hogan.

Mass of Christian Burial:  Monday, March 2, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony s Catholic Church, New Town.
Recitation of the Rosary:  Sunday, March 1, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony s Catholic Church, New Town.
Visitation:  Sunday, March 1, 2009, from noon until 4:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church on Sunday and Monday.
