Francis was born December 16th, 1938, in Minot, ND, the son of Phillip and
Adeline (Weininger) Thomas. He was raised and educated in Velva.
Francis enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955. He was stationed in Japan, where
he met his wife Mitsuko. They were married on June 2, 1962, in Japan. They
made their home in Japan for a year, until being stationed in San Diego, CA,
from 1962 until 1974. Francis retired from the Navy in 1974. They moved to
Velva that same year and farmed in Velva Township since 1974. Francis
semi-retired from farming in 2005.
Francis was a member of St.Cecelia's Catholic Church, Velva, American
Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus, and was a past member of the Fleet
Reserve. His interests included farming, reading, and watching Western
movies.
Surviving family includes: Wife: Mitsuko; Siblings: Caroline
Wentz, Everett, WA, Geraldine (Clair) Kraft, Grand Forks, Phil (Marilyn)
Thomas, Grand Forks, and Karl Thomas, Grand Forks.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in law Marsha
(Karl) Thomas.
Mass of Christina Burial: Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., in
St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, Velva.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Velva, later in the spring.
Visitation: Wednesday, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the Thomas
Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: Preferred to the American Cancer Society.
