Genevieve
Adeline Thompson, 85, Minot died on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, in a Minot
hospital.
Genevieve was born on June 20, 1921, in Charbonneau, ND, to Clyde and
Christina (Diess) Lindsley. She was raised in Alexander, ND, and as a young
adult she was employed at dairy farms in that area. Gen moved to Minot in
1939 and married John “Jack” Thompson on November 18, 1939 in Sidney,
Montana. They made their home in Minot; then in Tacoma, WA, during World
War II before returning to Minot in 1946. During the late 50’s and early
60’s she was employed as a concession worker and was the best popcorn maker
at the Minot Municipal Auditorium. They resided in Minnesota from 1968
until 1975 while Jack was employed in the construction industry, but again
returned to Minot.
After the death of her husband Jack of 43 years, on May 6, 1982, her
grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her new purpose in life. She
enjoyed taking care of them and mentoring them. During the holidays she
enjoyed decorating and spending time with her family and friends. Everyone
loved her pies, no one could make them like Gen.
Gen enjoyed the spring when she could plant her flower garden. She also
enjoyed ceramic and china painting, watching the ice skaters on television,
reading and collecting recipes. She liked to stay in contact via telephone
with friends and family. Gen could surprise you. Most times she was very
prim and proper, however, at the age of 80 she was game to ride on the back
of a “Honda trike” with a younger man, from Deadwood to Rapid City. She
never met a stranger. Gen resided at 807 Hiawatha Street for 65 years and
was a longtime member of Augustana Lutheran Church – Minot.
Her loving family includes her daughter: Arliss (Andy) Radford of Minot;
son-in-law: Darrell (Peggy) Hight of Minot; grandchildren: Cheri (Al) Schon,
Steven (Jeni) Radford and Michael (Angela) Radford; Great Grandchildren:
