James Patrick “Jamie” Slavens, 45, St. Helen’s, Oregon formerly of
Minot died on Friday, July 27, 2007, in his home. Jamie was born on January 22, 1962, in Minot, ND, to Noah and Karen (Johnson) Slavens. He was raised in Minot and attended Minot schools. As a young adult he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Ord CA. Following his discharge he returned to Minot where he was employed at Soaring Eagle Enterprises in Minot. He moved to St. Helen’s, Oregon in 2001 and was employed in the shipping department of Grand and Benedicts a store fixtures company located in Portland, Oregon. Jamie especially enjoyed reading science fiction, movies and music as well as dogs, golfing traveling to the beach or mountains, card playing and teasing his nieces and nephews. Survivors include his mother Karen Slavens of Minot; brother: Randall (Christine) Slavens of Grand Forks, Kathy (Kirk) Wurgler of Minot; sisters: Shelly (William Jr.) Stamper of Cheney, WA, Robin (Bryce) Volk of Bismarck and Tracy (Donavon) Mehlhoff of St. Helen’s, Oregon as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, paternal grandparents Arthur and Nora Slavens and maternal grandparents Woodrow and Willidean Johnson.
