John was born April 7, 1938, the son of Burton and Helen (Helseth) Anderson on the family farm, north of Carpio in Renville County, North Dakota. He moved with his family to a farm S.W. of Carpio, where he was raised. John participated in baseball and basketball and graduated from Carpio High School. John assisted with the operation of the family farm throughout the years until the farm was sold to his nephew, Maurice Askvig in 1988. He continued to live on the farm until moving to the Westhope Nursing Home in May of 1998. John was a longtime member of Carpio Lutheran Church. He was a member of the National Rifleman’s Association and enjoyed hunting in the Carpio area and target shooting at Donnybrook. He raised pure-bred Simmental Cattle and won a number of awards throughout the years John’s love for baseball continued in later years, as he enjoyed watching games on television, especially the Dodgers. His loving family includes: Sisters: Ora (Lloyd) Askvig, Minot, Margaret (Harold) Loritz, Bismarck, ND, and Barbara (Robert) Snyder, Howard PA; Brother: Maynard (Patsy) Anderson, Carpio; Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Martin and Oline Helseth, Michael and Bertina Anderson; niece, Cynthia Askvig and great-niece, Michelle Bland.
