Joyce Hornberger, 86, Mohall, formerly of Berthold and Minot, died
Sunday, December 23, 2007 in a Mohall Nursing Care Joyce was born June 7, 1921 on the family farm in Tolgen Township of Ward County, the daughter of Jay and Grace (Switzer) Hornberger. She was raised and educated near Berthold, and graduated from Berthold High School. She attended the Trinity School of Nursing, and received her Registered Nursing Degree. Joyce was employed as a nurse in North Dakota for a year and then joined the Army Nursing Corps during World War II. She served her country in that capacity from August of 1943 -- April of 1946. She attended Bob Jones University in South Carolina for three years. She then entered the Mission Field in 1949, and served on the Ivory Coast of West Africa as a Medical Missionary until 1986, when she retired and made her home in Minot. Joyce was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active with the AWANA Program. She was active in Women’s Bible study groups and the Mission Circle group of the church. She was always interested in her surroundings and enjoyed birds and animals. Her loving family includes: Brother: Wallace (Marjorie) Hornberger, Vancouver, WA; Sister-in-law: Ellen Hornberger, Berthold; a number of nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grandnephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Pauline, Chlea, Alma, Victoria and Anne, and a brother, Reno.
