Oscar OlsonOscar Norman Olson, 87, Minot, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 in Trinity Hospital.  

Oscar was born July 17, 1920, to Peter and Oline (Peterson) Olson. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Berthold, North Dakota and attended school in Lone Tree, Berthold and Foxholm. In 1941, he attended a trade school in Los Angeles, and worked for Consolidated Aircraft Corporation in San Diego, California until he was inducted into the United States Army. He served in the parachute combat team until he was honorably discharged in June 1944. After his father’s death, he took over operation of the family farm until 1957 when he became shop foreman for Kemper Construction Company where he worked until he retired in 1986. During his retirement years, he enjoyed working in the summers for Fegley Brothers Farm and Lowe's Garden Center.  

Oscar married Jean Doris Larson on December 6, 1948 in Berthold North Dakota where they lived until moving to Minot in 1963. 

Oscar was a member of Christ Lutheran Church for over 40 years where he sang in the choir, taught the Bethel Series, and was instrumental in organizing the Potet Klub Cooking Operation. He was a member of the American Legion, and Good Sam Club. 

Oscar enjoyed volunteering at the Hostfest, camping with Good Sam friends, tinkering in his workshop and making chokecherry wine. He loved his family above all, and was always interested in spending time with his children and grandchildren and being involved in their activities. Oscar always enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and was a great story-teller.  

Oscar is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Doris, and children Karen (John) Lamb, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Greg (Julie), Fargo, North Dakota; grandchildren, Micah (Alex) Lamb, Bloomington, Indiana, Matthew (Laura) Lamb, Ortonville, Minnesota, Jocelyn Olson, Charlottesville, Virginia, Amy Lamb, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Kendra Olson, Faribault, Minnesota, great-grand-daughter, Madeleine Lamb, Ortonville, Minnesota, and sister, Gerda (Norris) Wilson, Tioga, North Dakota.  

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Einar, Harold, Paul, and sister Janice. 

Funeral Service:  Saturday, September 22, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
  Wildrose Cemetery, rural Berthold, ND
Visitation:
  Friday, September 21, 2007, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers and plants memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church Worship & Music Ministry or to a charity of the donors choice.
