Dick was born February 17, 1928 at Hanks, North Dakota, the son of Jack and Cecilia (Higgins) Laqua. He was raised and educated at Hanks, and worked in the shipyards of Washington and later earned his high school diploma with the last graduating class at Hanks. Dick entered into active duty service with the U.S. Army and honorably served his country during the Korean War from October of 1950-September of 1952. He was decorated with several medals and honorably discharged and returned to North Dakota. Dick was united in marriage to Cecilia Muller on April 25, 1953 at Grenora. They made their home in Grenora where they worked at the local grocery store. He then became employed with Montana-Dakota Utilities working in the sales, marketing & management departments in Stanley, Crookston, Williston, Dickinson, and Minot. He retired as the Marketing Manager in 1990. Dick was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. He was a member of the Knight of Columbus, Elks Club, and Sertoma Club, where he served as President. Dick enjoyed woodworking, walking his dog, Tiger, and visiting with friends and family. His loving family includes: wife of fifty-five years, Cecilia; Daughter: Drs. Denise (Mike) Tonner, Vero Beach, FL,; Son: Rick Laqua, Minot; Grandchildren: Libby and Jack.; Brother: Francis (Lovella) Laqua and a number of nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Alponse, Leo and Johnny and sisters, Leona and Cecilia. “Peace be with You!”
