Robert
Greenup, 77, Berthold, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in a Minot
nursing home.
Robert was born December 22, 1929, on the family farm, in Evergreen
Township, near Berthold, to Theodore and Ada (Kilborn) Greenup. He was
raised and educated in Berthold, where he helped on the family farm. Robert
entered the U.S. Army on October 17, 1951, and served in Korea. He was
honorably discharged on May 26, 1952, from Fort Jackson, SC.
Robert was united in marriage to Beatrice Hagen on January 27, 1957, in
Berthold. They lived in Berthold, where Robert worked for area farmers
until the fall of 1957 when he began his career with John Deere as a
mechanic; he also continued to do some farming on his own. Robert retired
from farming in 1983 and from John Deere in 1992 after thirty-five years.
He continued to work for local farmers after retirement until Beatrice's
health required him to stay home and care for her. Beatrice died on April
16, 2004.
Robert enjoyed farming, working on his machinery and playing cards. In
August of 2005 with the persuasion of Beatrice's family and his friend Judy
Deaver, he went on an Alaskan cruise. He entered ManorCare in 2006.
Robert was a member of the American Legion, Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold,
and was a past member of the Eagle's.
Surviving family includes: Children: Dawn (Vern) Herman, Williston,
Darcy (Brett) Benth, Auburn, WA, Del Greenup, Berthold; Grandchildren:
Matthew and Nathan Herman; Brother: Wilber (Doris) Greenup, Berthold;
Special friend and guardian angel: Judy Deaver, Berthold; and numerous
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Beatrice, and brother:
Darell Greenup.
Funeral: Monday, April 16, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., in Zion Lutheran
Church, Berthold.
Interment: Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold, later in the spring.
Visitation: There will be no reviewal; however friends may sign the
memorial register book on Sunday, April 15, 2007, from noon until 5:00 p.m.
in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
