Ruth E. Miller Smith, 86, Burlington, formerly of Alexandria, VA and Minot, died Saturday, October 14, 2006, in a Burlington Adult Foster Care Home. 

Ruth Miller was born September 12, 1920, in Wysox Township, PA, to Perl and Susan (King) Miller.  She was born and raised in Wysox and Towanda, PA and graduated from Towanda High School in 1938. 

Ruth was united in marriage to Lawrence C. Smith May 20, 1943, in Waverly, NY.  They made their home in Waverly and Rochester, NY and later moved to Alexandria, VA. 

Lawrence died in 1982, and later that year Ruth moved to Minot, to be nearer her daughter.  She remained in Minot, where she was active in Vincent Methodist Church, Minot Blind Association, and Minot Senior Citizens until 1994, when she entered a Burlington adult care home and remained there until her death. 

Ruth was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot and the North Dakota Association of the Blind.  Her hobbies included homemaker, cooking, dancing, and traveling. 

She is survived by:  Daughter, Mary Ellen (Jim) Haskins, Glenburn, ND; Son, Jeffery Smith, Florida; Sister, Esther Casselbury, High Point, NC; Three Grandchildren; a very special caregiver, Barbara Enney, Burlington, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Wayne Smith, sisters, Mary Straud and Clara Housknecht, and brother, Leslie Miller. 

Funeral Service:  A Private Interment service will be held at a later date at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Virginia.

Memorials:  Memorials are preferred to Minot Commission on Aging.
